Dia de Muertos Kpopero [Kpop Day of the Dead playlist] ~!

La mayoría de las listas de reproducción aka playlist, allá afuera son sobre Halloween, temática siniestra u oscura; pues bien, al haber sido Halloween apenas ayer se me ocurrió hacer una un poco diferente y con relación a México, y que mejor que El día de Muertos (ya que estamos en estas ondas, verdad).

La muerte está muy presente en la cultura mexicana. El día de muertos es una de las tradiciones más representativas de la cultura del país; esta honra a los difuntos y es el tiempo en el que las almas de los seres queridos regresan a casa a convivir con los vivos. La celebración se lleva a cabo en dos días (generalmente, pues varía de región en región): el 1 de noviembre que es dedicado al alma de los niños y el 2 de noviembre a la de los adultos.

Most of playlists out there are about Halloween, dark and spooky themed (nothing wrong with that); because Halloween was yesterday I came up with the idea of doing a playlist a Little bit different and related to Mexico with el Día de Muertos (now that we’re in this times of the year).

The death is strongly represented in Mexican culture. El Día de Muertos, aka Day of the Dead is a day of celebration and one of the most representative traditions of the country. Rather than grieve over the loss of a beloved one, they choose to commemorate the live of the dearly departed and welcome the return of their spirits. It is celebrated on November 1^st and 2^nd; the 1^st dedicated to children souls and 2^nd to adults.

Como sabemos, el k-pop es una amalgama de estilos, uno dividido en cien. Cabe destacar que tome en cuenta el concepto, la melodía, la letra y en algunas ocasiones la coreografía; así, aquí les dejo las canciones que a mi criterio (y gusto) quedarían perfectas para esta celebración mexicana.

As we all know, kpop is a melting-pot of styles, one Split up in a hundred. It is noteworthy that I took into account the concept, melody, lyrics, and in some cases the choreography. Here I present to you the songs under my judgment (and taste) are perfect for this Mexican celebration.

F(x) Dracula

“En la noche más oscura, cuando no hay nadie alrededor, su fuerza se acerca. No hay ninguna salida.”

“Deep in the darkest night, when there’s no one around, his force is coming. There’s no way out”

Tal vez esta canción hable de Drácula, pero la descripción que muestra la letra de la canción, junto con la música un tanto tenebrosa, me hizo recordar todos esos cantos y escritos que se cuentan sobre la muerte, el símbolo más representativo del Día de Muertos, que la flaca viene por todos. This song is about Dracula, but the description shown in the lyrics together with the somewhat dark music, made me remember all those songs and writings told about the Death, the most representative symbol of the Day of the Death, that is coming for all of us.

IU Missing child (mia)

“Que nuestra despedida no fue un sueño, eso lo sé bien. Juntando mis dos pequeñas manos, mi única plegaria es… vuelve a mí.”

“That our parting is not a dream, I know all too well. Gathering my two small hands, my only prayer is this…Come back to me”

Creo que esta canción muestra las etapas por las que pasa alguien cuando pierde a un ser querido; después de que sucede, uno no sabe cómo asimilar esa noticia por lo que se siente perdido, quiere que esa persona regrese y más, pero gracias al apoyo de familiares y amigos, uno se da cuenta que debe aceptar los hechos sin olvidar a esa persona, pero seguir adelante. I think that this song and video show the phases one comes through when losing a loved one. After it happens, one doesn’t know how to take in the news, so one feels lost and just wants that person to come back; but thanks to the support of family and friends, one figure out that it must be accepted without forgetting the person, but to move on.

VIXX - Error

“Nunca te olvides de mí. Este lugar es más profundo que un sueño dentro de un sueño”.

“Don’t ever forget me. This place is deeper than a dream inside a dream”

Esta canción la escogí principalmente por la historia que va contando el video; como un chico con tal de no perder a su amada la “revive” de cierta manera para estar con ella, al mismo tiempo convirtiéndose también en parte cyborg como su amada. Pero al utilizar objetos ilegales (como se muestra cuando revisan a la chica) prefiere morir junto a ella. I choose this song mainly because of the story the video shows; how a boy in order not to lose his beloved one "revive" her a certain way to be with her, while also becoming part cyborg as his beloved. But using illegal objects (as shown when the men check the girl) would rather die with her.

IU - cruel fairy tale

“Cuando esta noche llegue a pasar, tu aparecerás y me despertaras. La luz vendrá a buscarme y después, por toda la eternidad, viviremos felices para siempre”

“When this night passes, you will come to wake me. When that door opens, the light will reach me
and forever after, I will live happily”.

Personalmente amo esta canción y después de dejar eso claro creo que por la letra es obvia la razón por la que la escogí. Al pensar en el Día de Muertos, esta frase me hace referencia a alguien que está a punto de fallecer, pero en vez de verle lo malo, decide ver el lado positivo, estar con sus seres queridos que también perecieron y estar con ellos por siempre. Personally I love this song and after making this clear, I think with lyrics is obvious why I chose it. When thinking about the Day of the Dead, this phrase makes me refer to someone who is about to die, but instead of seeing the sad and bad side of it, the person sees the positive side: to be with their loved ones who perished and also to be with them forever.

Oh my Girl – Closer

“En el espacio donde estábamos siempre juntos, tu estas brillando solo. Fuera de tantas constelaciones, espero que una de estas se asemeje a ti, para que estés en el cielo y brilles. Si sueño contigo una y otra vez, ¿nos vamos a ver?”

Es una canción con una melodía delicada al igual que el baile. Lo que me hizo escogerla fue exactamente ese fragmento de la letra que les muestro, ya que me pareció se asemeja a los pensamientos que se tienen cuando se pierde a un ser querido, que está arriba en el cielo brillando y cuidando. It’s a song with a delicate melody and dance. What made choose it, was the fragment I’m showing you above; it made think it’s like people thoughts when losing a loved one, who is up in the sky taking care and shining.

G.O.D. - To my mother

“Mamá estaba muy cansada, rápidamente cayó en un profundo sueño y nunca… despertó de nuevo. Descansa ahora.”

“Mother was very tired, she quickly fell into a deep sleep and she never… woke up again. Rest now.”

Una de la vieja escuela, que nos cuenta una historia conmovedora de una pequeña familia, una madre y su hijo, como lo ayuda a salir Adelante y lo deja en paz y satisfecha de haber hecho lo mejor para su hijo. One of the old school, who tells a moving story of a small family, a mother and son, ho she helps him to move forward, and leave him in peace and happy to have done the best for her child.

Ladies' Code - I'll Smile Even If It Hurts

Está de más decir porque escogí esta canción. Está de más escoger solo un fragmento, cuando toda la canción hace referencia precisamente a la muerte y como dice el título “incluso si duele, sonreiré”. Needless to say the reason I picked this song. Needless to pick only a part of the lyrics when the whole song refers precisely to death and as the title says “I’ll smile even if it hurts”.

“Espero que seas feliz donde quiera que estés, te deseo felicidad”. Feliz Día de Muertos.
